The competition, dubbed “Spring of Quran” was recently organized jointly by the Muhammad Omar Society, the religious affairs department of the city of Osh and the Quran Urdu religious organization.
Shiruva Fitima bagged the top prize, according to the panel of judges, winning an Umrah pilgrimage package as well as 25,000 KGS (Kyrgyzstan’s currency) in cash.
The runner-up was Dadajanu Umida who won an Umrah pilgrimage package as well as 20,000 KGS.
Rukhsara bint Khatamjan came third and received a laptop as well as a cash prize of 15,000 KGS.
All of the other participants also received presents for attending the Quranic event.
Kyrgyzstan is a landlocked country with mountainous terrain in Central Asia. It is bordered by Kazakhstan to the north, Uzbekistan to the west and southwest, Tajikistan to the southwest and China to the east. Its capital and largest city is Bishkek.
Official sources estimate that 80 percent of the country’s population is Muslim.
